Cameron Highlands Malaysia Travel Forums
Cameron Highlands Malaysia travel forums is great way to ask for advice and share information about your travel destination experience to the Malaysian highlands. It is open to everybody so anybody can give their two cents worth. I will check it once in awhile to share my suggestions as well. So all in all, everybody will have some fair idea about what to expect when going to Cameron Highlands and how to plan for your trip.
Also for first timers going up the Malaysia Highlands, I understand your trepidation about driving along roads that are narrow and winding. My first experience was also done with some anxiety. However after several trips, you would more or less know what to expect. It was so many years ago when I made my first trip, and at that time there wasn't even internet and websites where I could get information. Everything was done rather blind. Now with information at your fingertips; forewarned is certainly forearmed. You may still be anxious for your first trip, but at least you have some expectation on what you would expect while travelling to our favourite Cameron Highlands tourism Malaysia travel destination!

The key of success is not a low price but worthy services. One day, you want to travel around Vietnam and see that Ha Long Bay is the must for everyone in this charming country. Price is not always in correspondence with quality for many things in this world. But when you choose Oriental Sails for your trip you will absolutely enjoy. Only with 105 usd for a 2 day tour, 190usd for 3day kayaking tour, and 225usd for 3day rock climbing tour you can totally discover the beauty of Ha Long bay from many sites. More than that, the reasonable price for such a worth deluxe tour will satisfy you.

June on "Hotels, Resorts, Apartments, Bungalows, Guesthouse, Accommodations"
In Nov 2009, I have booked the desa anthurium apartment from Mdm Tang to stay there during cny 2010 as recommended by this website. She has agreed with the booking availability and price. I have also paid the deposit and sent her confirmation with the total price agreed. However, in end of Dec 2009, she called me and said that she has wrongly told me the total price for the accommodation. She said she needs to increase another RM100 as it will be peak time during the cny 2010. She non-stop talking through the phone in order to stop me from talking. Then she said, if I want the apartment then have to pay the extra RM100 or else she just cancel the booking.
She was so unprofessional to do that. She might have gotten another customer who want to book for the same date with higher price and that she forced me to pay another RM100. I was quite angry at that time but I tried to hold my anger as I afraid she doesn't want to give me back my deposit. Then after few days, I have received back my deposit and here I want to write my bad experience with this Mdm Tang. Hope that other people wont get cheated by her again.

I went to Cameron Highlands on 6-Nov-2009. We rent the Brinchang Holiday Bungalow for 2 nights which cost us RM1200 per night.
We rent the bungalow on-line. The description and photos of the bungalow seems like perfect and worth for the price.
http://www.bjaya.com/cameron_brinchangbungalow.html
BRINCHANG HOLIDAY BUNGALOW
All bungalow are equipped with quality fittings & furnishings, suitable for
family & friends gathering. 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom, for 13-15 pax, Fully
furnished, Astro TV program, Kitchen with utensil. BBQ pit.
available upstairs only
LOCATION
Brinchang Town, Cameron Highlands
10 minutes distance to Tanah Rata Town
My comment: Location is good. It is opposite Shell petro station.
About the bungalow, I have several comments about it:-
1) I would describe the “Bungalow” as home stay because we are sharing the same building with the owner who stayed at ground floor. We paid RM1200 for home stay… sounds ridiculous, right? (See picture 1st row)
2) We need to walk upstairs by using staircase beside the “Bungalow” to enter the house. (See picture 2nd row left).
3) “All bungalows are equipped…” Sorry, only one bungalow available there. Surrounding is bushes and quarters.
4) It’s impossible to hold gathering in that “Bungalow” living hall because the actual living hall available on 1st floor is about size of one sedan car porch. Living hall showed in picture 2nd row right is located in ground floor, which means that occupied by the owner.
5) 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms are available. Bedrooms are equipped with new matress and clean window panel. But need to be aware that you might get cold shower during halfway showering. The hot water supply is not enough for 5 bathrooms operation.
6) Astro TV program is not available due to they didn’t pay for it. So end up we never turn on TV for that 2 days.
7) Kitchen with utensil??? Hmm… Kitchen size is small, it only able to fit 2 people in. Utensil means that one hob gas cooker, one spoilt rice cooker and dirty & stained plates and bowls.
8) BBQ pit??? It’s only a Kuih Kapit stove that placed under the staircase.
The most horrible thing is when we joke or laugh louder; the owner will walk up and show her face in front of glass panel door. Huh… no privacy at all! She shouldn’t rent out her upstairs if she cannot accept the noise.
To me I feel like cheated. We are paying for Mercedes but we get only a Proton Saga.
This is my small advice to any friends who want to rent this “Bungalow”.

jan on "Kang Travellers Lodge or Fathers Guesthouse?"
They are both of similar budget. And so far both have been very warm towards me. What would be your expectation and requirement? If plan to return year after year and would like to leave behind baggage for safekeeping, go for Kang. If you like a little old history and stay in the military barracks and have a nice view of the old bungalow, go for Father's.
Still can't decide? Flip a coin then!
Cheers!

Although Cameron Highlands is located on the western side of the mountain range, the Nov-Jan monsoon will still affect the highlands. Expect to be wet. Anyway the world weather is whack now, every time I go up there for this year I experience rain. So your trip would not be any different. Landslides depends on your blessing. So far in all my life of driving up never experience any. Praise the Lord for protection and so far so good.

I tried to find the number but cannot get. I couldn't find their house either in Tringkap. I think this location is a little too outskirt for accommodation. Most people would rather stay in Tanah Rata, Brinchang or around the central tourism location.

Dear Nurul,
Congratulations!
You got a budget? If you plan to splurge can try YTL Cameron Highlands Resort, Smokehouse Hotel or Lakehouse Hotel.
For good food with nice ambiance any of the above hotels. YTL got the Gonbei Japaneses Restaurant if you don't have any problem going for Japanese Food, give that a try.
Activities, the usual, the Boh Tea Plantation at Sg Palas. But since you are splurging, you might want to go for their village spa in Cameron Highlands Resort. You don't have to be staying guest to try their spa.

This is their reply on other forums and also an email was send to me to show remorse.
It is unfortunate that you have had such an unpleasant experience at the hotel.I empathise with you. At this stage we are still undergoing teething problems but this does not warrant a bad experience for you.
We sincerely apologise and I have sent an email to you through the event organiser that I trust she will send you.
This was my response
Glad that the hotel representative response to the complaint. My intention was to let the real management know what their ground staffs is doing and to correct the matter. I have accepted the shown of remorse by representative and have reply an email to the organizer.

We 40 over paxs from a company use their facilities. The room is new and good but your staffs need to be more professional.
1- Not a single employee smiles at me or greet me in the morning.
2- I ask the restaurant employee 'are they ready for us to come in for breakfast?' was return with an angry look.
3- My employees was chase away from the buffet table rudely because the restaurant are not ready but then again if not ready why let us enter or why didn't inform the organizer or even me?
3- My staffs complaint of the BBQ chicken not cook and show the manager (Alan) the blood in the chicken and it was return with 'A little not cook wouldn't kill you!' this come from a manager's mouth is highly unacceptable.
4- When the nasi goreng runs out, I ask the staffs to have some more as some of my employees has not eaten yet.. The staff say the restaurant has no more rice!!!(What is this???)
5- As you would understand that 40 over peoples need to have a good preparation and plan such as food & drink volume, control of time and communications with organizer is very important.
6-I have send a complaint through their De La Fern web site, they didn't reply at all. I guess they are just plain ignorant.
I will not use this hotel anymore and I advice whoever read this would think twice

jan on "Drive frm Singapore To CH"
Please read the Getting There Page. Enough tips and direction info in that page. Briefly from Singapore follow signboard in North-South PLUS Expressway head north to Tapah or Simpang Pulai. Won't see the town names till you are in Perak, so in meantime follow route as though going to Ipoh. Along the way to Tapah or Simpang Pulai you will see sign to Cameron Highlands. Tapah is older route, Simpang Pulai further north is newer easier route (but use this way with caveat, like don't use it during peak holiday).

jan on "Cameron Highlands end of Ramadan"
Uh, uh... looks like you will have problem with transport. This is when almost everybody be they Muslim, non-Muslim, Malay, Chinese, Indians will be taking opportunity to "balik kampung" (go back home town) to visit their families. It is tradition. So expect heavy traffic and jams on the highway. The most difficult part would be getting tickets for public transport - buses and trains - all the tickets would be sold out. You need to buy them at least one to two months in advance.
Tours and restaurant would still be open, but not the Malay stalls. Food wouldn't be a problem. I doubt there will be much of crowd up there as most would be going back to their hometown rather than go for a holiday, though some crowd might be expected.
The main problem is still transport. If there is some way you can book your tickets in advance from way over there you would be fine.

chrisandeddy on "Cameron Highlands end of Ramadan"
Hi, My husband and I will be travelling around Malaysia in September, 2009. The itinerary we have worked out will take us to the Cameron Highlands on 17th September and we plan a stay of 2 or 3 nights.
We have now found out that this coincides with a long weekend celebrating the end of Ramadan and it has been suggested to us that we should change our plans. Unfortunately this is a little difficult to do. If we don't visit as planned we may miss out on Cameron Highlands altogether and that would be extremely disappointing.
Can anyone advise of problems that we may encounter if we try and come on the 17th?
We will be relying on public transport from KL (thanks for your advice earlier this year Jan)and when we leave we will be heading for Taiping before going to Penang.
Will the tours of Cameron Highlands still be operating during this time? If the only problem is crowds of people, then that is no problem for us. I think it would be nice to be part of the celebrations.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Christa.

Just to share...I always bring along a dozen of 1.5L (thats 18L) of mineral water whenever I travel up on a self drive holiday. I pay the fuel penalty for this extra weight but I think I am better off buying a dozen at cheaper px and of course in case you NEED it anywhere or anytime....Also some water purifying tablets too...(Kiasu lah)

Equatorial Hotel will have water disruption on 12/July/2009? Well that's what the staff told one of my readers. Could be a routine water works department schedule maintenance. AFAIK the water shortage situation has been alleviated.

Hello,
I searched this post by chance, I need help from you as I found someone done this before.
As i want to meet my family at Cameron Highlands, but I have no idea how can I get there from my Pulau Redang trip.
I've been Cameron highlands twice, using both of new and old routes, as long as I can get to Simpang Pulai, there will be no problem at all. But where should I start my journey from Redang? Any safer and shorter route information can be provided?
Looking forward for your reply.
Thank you,
Catlover

I guess in any trip, the first thing holiday goers check is to find out the accommodations. Which hotels, resorts, apartments, bungalows, guest house or even homestay place to stay? This choice is up to individual based on family size, budget, location, amenities, and convenience. Cameron Highlands got almost all types to choose, from cheap guesthouses with dormitory style accommodation, very cheap only RM10 per night! And of course the ultra luxurious like YTL Cameron Highlands Resort costing RM1000 per night! So where to stay?
